Long Ridge Trail

Placed byMOtrailblazer
Placement Date:  6/28/2005
State:  Missouri
County:  Franklin
Nearest City: Sullivan
Number of Boxes: 1

Directions:  From St. Louis, take I-44 west to the Hwy 185 exit in Sullivan.  Turn west on 185 and follow road to Hwy AF, (which becomes ridge road).  Turn north and go 5 miles to the first trailhead parking lot on the left side of the road.

Clue:

Follow the trail west out of the parking lot.  At the first intersection on the trail, turn right.  Follow the trail in a northerly direction until you come to another fork in the trail and turn right again.  You are still going in a northerly direction.  You'll bend to the left and back again.  Just keep following the trail as it makes a steady bend and turn to the northeast.  On the right side of the trail, you'll see a mature tree with the bark twisting it's way up.  It looks like it must have been caught in a tornado.  I'm not listing "paces" or mileage because I figure different horses will have totally different sized paces, and most people have no way to gage distances.  You'll just have to keep your eyes open looking around for it.  Once you find the "tornado" tree, dismount your horse and temporarily tie him (preferably cross tied) where ever safe to do so.  Look north, south, east and west all around the tornado tree until you find the dead scary looking tree.  It's within about 50 feet from the tornado tree.  At the base, behind the scary tree is a hole that looks like a little elf could live in it.  That's where you will find the letterbox.  Find a stick to poke around in the hole, then pull the box out.

To borrow a phrase from Letterboxer Lnd-Crzr --- No letterbox should suffer from improper re-hideation! Please Re-Hide with care.
